How has Racism Shaped the Church in America?
What can we do about it?
This class will unpack how the Legacy of Slavery continues to influence every institution in our society, including the church.
Over (5) weeks we will discuss how the modern American church has its roots in slavery, laid its foundation during reconstruction and was established during Jim Crow Segregation.
We will explore the origins of the Black Church and why despite the church-led Civil Rights Movement, the American Church remains one of the most segregated institutions in our society.
The class concludes with personal and organizational strategies to overcome the impacts of racism and ways we can develop more racial, ethnic and economically diverse congregations

Preparation & Introduction
Because people are at various places in their understanding of race & racism, upon registration participants will be provided a link to a pre-class assignment to help prepare for this class. This is to be completed before the start of the Week One Class.
It includes class learning objectives, clarification of key terms/definitions and videos which help unpack those terms. They will also have an opportunity to prepare their own learning objectives and some questions they hope to get answered.
