Capacity Building Resources for Teachers & School Staff

Professional Development Training

 for Teachers & School Staff

Poverty, the word, is an abstraction, which keeps the conversation from real, concrete discussions about it. People feel that it’s such an overwhelming condition that they think, “There’s nothing I can do about it.”  But if we can focus on those concrete effects of poverty, the more we can discuss solutions.

Learn how poverty impacts students and their families...

Children growing up in poverty often experience life as a series of volatile situations over which neither they nor their caregivers have any control. The Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) provides educators a glimpse into that experience helping them to develop a greater understanding of the impact poverty has on students and their families.  Building on this greater understanding, we work with both teachers and other school staff to develop more informed strategies for behavior management, family engagement, and instructional design. We offer this resource in partnership with The Worth Foundation.   (CEUs Available. Ask for Details)  More
